With reference to the first department meeting (Ref. No: 02/DM/SU2018) of Summer Semester 2018 dated July 01, 2018, the faculty of English Department who were engaged in teaching core disciplinary courses agreed and decided to assume the responsibility of allocating some of their class time to develop students’ language learning skills, mainly their oral presentation and academic writing abilities. To adopt an approach or theoretical framework for developing students’ knowledge of ‘language use’, in addition to their content knowledge, a workshop entitled “The Potential of Using CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) in Courses across Disciplines” was held on Thursday 12.07.2018 at 1: 30 in Hall B. First, Dr. Bakhtiar elaborated on the theoretical and practical aspects of building students’ literacy skills in disciplinary contexts. He then provided examples of disciplinary teachers helping students develop their linguistic knowledge and, on the other hand, of language teachers situating their language lessons into the rich content to help them develop their thematic or world knowledge. In the end, the faculty gave more concrete examples of the integration of language and content in their classes.
